Overview
Imagine going an entire day without food...it's hard to think about and especially heartbreaking if you were a child. Every day in Metro Detroit, an estimated 700,000 men, women and children face the cruel reality of having nothing to eat. Thousands of families are casualties of the dire economic times that continue to grip Southeast Michigan. The Salvation Army is one of the largest human services providers on the frontlines in the fight against hunger -- dedicated to helping our less fortunate neighbours 365 days of the year, no holidays or weekends. On average The Salvation Army provides nutritious meals to more than 5,000 men, women and children each and every day. This grant will help provide an additional 155,254 meals to the needy seniors, families and individuals through our food pantries and mobile feeding trucks. In addition to providing this immediate food assistance, our case workers also help with resolving causative issues and finding permanent solutions.
