Goals
- Create a fleet of bike trailers
- Set up an effective trailer-sharing program
- Foster sustainable neighborhood business initiatives
- Reduce dependence on fossil-fuel powered transportation
- Fulfill the existing demand for accessible bike trailers
Overview
Imagine a fleet of 50 bike trailers at the disposal of every Chicago neighborhood. Our streets will be transformed! For every grocery run or delivery made individuals, households and businesses could opt to use bike trailers instead of motor vehicles. This means less traffic, a healthier, more active community, less dependence on oil, and cleaner air. Furthermore, the money previously spent on gas and insurance costs could be reinvested into our communities. The Loaded Bikes Trailer-Sharing Collective provides a vital community service.
METHODS
- Build 50 user-friendly, durable bike trailers which can haul up to 400 lbs.
- Partner with businesses, community centers and individuals in neighborhoods across the city of Chicago to set up trailer host-sites that are easily accessible to a wide population.
- Set up an administrative system to monitor use and keep track of trailer availability.
- Reach out to the community to create a wide membership base
