Overview
Our project will take a successful and popular local program nationwide.
In 2007, we created a project to reduce a dramatic increase in obesity by encouraging people of all ages and financial backgrounds to unplug from technology and reconnect with their natural surroundings. We developed a free 1-year outdoor program (Lincoln Safari) which has received national recognition. This "treasure hunt" guidebook and map directs people to markers in little known natural spaces in their own community. During the past 2 programs, over 9,800 groups (or 36,100 individuals) have participated. Our success has inspired inquiries from San Fran to Philly regarding how to start a similar program.
Our request is to fund an online curriculum so that other communities can be encouraged to model this program and get people outside! We will create a website featuring downloadable materials, templates, PSAs, FAQs, and suggested partners so others can quickly and easily implement the program.
