Overview

Since 2008, the kids kayaking program has had over 100 participants. Based on the success and demonstrated community interest, we aim to expand the program dramatically by purchasing our own equipment.

Kids are instructed by a certified instructor in learning a potential life long activity. In addition to kayaking, this program provides a means for teaching team building, leadership, mentoring, environmental stewardship and outdoor skills.

Targeted population for this program includes at-risk, low income, juvenile court as well as kids from the greater community. Partners include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lake Superior Village and a person working with the Juvenile Court System.

Purchasing our own equipment reduces our overhead and expands our paddling opportunities including pools, inland lakes, Lake Superior and adverse temperatures by having the proper safety and clothing for all participants.

How will the 50K be Used?

Budget Notes: Equipment purchase includes: - 20 kayaks for kids and staff for both inland and Lake Superior - proper safety gear for all involved - proper outdoor clothing - trailers and storage racks
$ 30,000 Equipment purchase
$ 14,000 Staff wages for training, administration and overhead
$ 2,200 Equipment storage
$ 3,800 Misc including participant & staff transportation, lunch/snacks, etc
