Overview
Ohio has lost 90% of its wetlands. These losses are felt nationwide. Wetlands purify drinking water, reduce flooding, provide habitat and store carbon. The Wetlands Education Team (WET) and Project work to save remaining wetlands through education and preservation. We'll have help from many community and statewide organizations in our educational efforts to broaden our reach. We also work to reduce air toxins which threaten our community's health. By limiting vehicle exhausts through no idling policies, school bus filters and education, we will work to reduce particulate matter by 20%. The Spotted Salamander and its vernal pool habitat will highlight the effect of threats to wetlands in our campaign.
Maintenance and enhancement of wetland areas will be service learning opportunities. We will take our message on the road to conferences, public meetings, schools and educational events.
