Overview
This trail development project for the community of Vinton, Iowa fuses the desire to further enhance the availability of outdoor recreation and exercise opportunities with that of the necessity to establish routes to community schools that are both safe and appealing enough to be regularly utilized by area youth. A trail system that meets both of these goals will provide for an overall healthier community in the continuing fight against locally rising obesity rates. Our department has recently commissioned a comprehensive master plan for a 6.8 mile trail system that will loop around and through Vinton. The particular segment to initially be developed using project funding is known as the 'SE School Trail Segment.' This 3,275 foot off-road, multi-use trail will connect an existing and highly utilized off-road trail segment to fully encompass the elementary school and its surrounding land. This 14 foot wide trail will support a high volume of cycling, walking and running participants.
