Overview
The Healthy Start Program is a unique combination of nutrition and physical activity for people of all ages. We will continuously support health seekers of all ages to make positive changes in their pursuit of well-being. This is not a short term vision but a life long benefit that will create and sustain a healthier community. The Ventura County Public Health Community Health Status Report for 2008 includes data and statistics on the level of fitness and health of the community. "Consequences of childhood obesity are diabetes, high blood-pressure, obstructive sleep apnea, fatty hepatitis, poor self-esteem, and lower health-related quality of life. Some of the reasons for the obesity epidemic in teens are related to food choices; 66% of our teens drink soda every day and 48% eat fast food daily. 75% of obese children maintain their weight problems into adulthood." We will help create a happier, healthier lifestyle.
