Overview

The main goal of the Tutor/Mentor Connection is to support the growth of volunteer-based tutoring and mentoring programs in the Chicago region. The first way it does this is to maintain a master database of known programs. The T/MC shares this data via the Tutor/Mentor Program Locator, which uses maps and search criteria, such as by zip code, or age-group served, to help students, teachers, parents, volunteers, and/or donors find existing programs in specific zip codes. The Program Locator uses GIS mapping to show areas of poverty, failing schools and existing programs, in conjunction with businesses and other assets to demonstrate the lack of programs and the need for more programs, as well as partners who could be working together to help existing programs grow. The T/MC organizes events throughout the year to build public awareness and attract more viewers to this information. Included are May and November Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference held each year since 1994.
