Overview

A study conducted by the CDC found that 9 out of 10 school kids are not meeting the suggested daily allowance of fresh fruits and vegetables in their diet. Type 2 Diabetes and obesity are nearing epidemic proportions in our schools. Taste Buds at its core is a mobile, interactive, tactile fresh food experience for kids. The Taste Buds Truck will visit local schools on a daily basis. Classes will board the truck and be briefed on their Fresh Factor challenge. The class will be split into two teams each of which has the opportunity to earn Taste Buds Bucks when they sample new fruits and veggies. The rewards will grow as the samples get more exotic. The Bucks are then redeemable in our stores for FREE fruit. Each child will exit the truck with armed with FREE fruit and the knowledge that fresh fruits and vegetables should be embraced rather than feared. We have a record of activism in our schools. We donate up to 10% of every sale and sent over $14,000 to our schools in '09.

How will the 25K be Used?

Budget Notes: We will cover the cost of the truck, the insurance on the truck, and the driver of the Mobile Unit. The vast majority of the grant will go directly toward purchasing fresh fruits & vegetables to give to kids.
