Goals

  • Provide falls prevention training to 15 service providers.
  • Provide prevention and safety education to 200 MN seniors.
  • Increase balance and core strength to reduce falls through Tai Chi.

Overview

The "Life in Balance" program will educate seniors to make positive lifestyle and behavior changes regarding the safety of their surroundings, sustaining self sufficiency, encourage healthy behaviors (i.e. assess home environment for risk of falls, keeping sidewalks and driveways clean and dry), increase balance and core strength to reduce falls.  


Deliverables:

*15 Assisted Living facility staff will participate in falls prevention training.

*8 seniors per facility will participate in the falls prevention training and Tai Chi classes = 120 individuals

*1000 seniors in participating facilities will complete an environmental safety checklist and make recommended home and lifestyle improvements.
