Overview
Our desire is to aid in improving the economic structure of this impoverished area by facilitating the building of sustainable homes to help build pride and hope for the Native people. We can build homes on resevations and Indian land using excess and recycled materials and contributions. With each home built we are giving Native men, women and teens the training and experience to help them become self-reliant. This training will allow them to become a part of the construction industry in their community and nearby areas.
We plan to start by building homes for the elders and single mothers as these are the ones who need help the most on Pine Ridge Reservation.
Pine Ridge Statistics:
*Elderly die each winter from freezing
*Infant mortality rate is 300% higher than US national average
*Median Income -$2,500 per year
*Unemployment - 80% or higher
*Over 60% of the homes are without either water, electricity, adequate insulation, or sewer systems.
