Overview

Two Rock 4-H Club in collaboration with the Tiburon Salmon Institute will help refresh endangered salmon by building underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROV’s) to record and display the health of hand-raised fish. 4-H kids ages 6-12 will be empowered with robotics to build underwater ROV’s fitted with cameras and environmental sensors. As part of a national 4-H SET initiative, kids will team up to build robots which can be safely deployed in fish net pens. 4-H kids and high school volunteers will share their activity with the world through a salmon health website. Web-based sensors will monitor for predators and fish feeding behavior. 4-H Kids and high school volunteers will work together to employ technology and help save a species. Deliverables: • 16 4-H kids will learn robotics and principles of ROV construction. • 8 Reusable underwater video ROV's will be built. • 75,000 Salmon will be monitored weekly for five months, project will be repeated for three consecutive years.
