Overview
The entire year leading up to the ride will be spent in preparation for the trip. Each rider must raise a minimum of $4,500, or a dollar for every mile we will be pedaling. This money will be raised through the support of friends, families, and businesses in our letter writing campaign, panhandling, and event planning. To prepare for the physical feat we will take on, we train rigorously at regular training rides and core workouts, accumulating a minimum of 1,500 training miles before we leave for Alaska. At weekly meetings, we discuss upcoming events and goals, invite guest speakers from the community to increase our own knowledge of cancer, and prepare for our ride by focusing on the fitness, equipment, fundraising, travel, programming, and media aspects of our trip. Student committees and leadership plan out food, lodging, and other details of the ride, thus making the summer a largely student-run initiative.
