  • Provide a facility for an underserved, at risk population.
  • Provide additional recreational choices for members of the coumunity.

Overview

Utilzing experienced skatepark designers and contractors, the goal is to build a skatepark to be used by both skaters and bmxers.  A group of dedicated parents and youth have been trying for three years to get this park built.  Due to the tough economic times, funds are not available via our Town budget.  Through various events (car washes, bake sales), approximately $5,000 has been raised to date.  A survey taken at the Pembroke Middle School and High School supported the need for a skatepark, as not every student is a baseball player, soccer player, football player, etc.  There are plenty of fields for baseball, soccer, and football, but not one place available in our Town for skaters/bmxers.  Skateboarding and bmx riding is a sport and the youth of our Town deserve to have a place to practice their sport safely (instead of on streets or sidewalks), while expanding their athletic abilities and skills.

How will the 250K be Used?

$ 75,000 To hire a designer/contractor/equipment rental to build the park.
$ 75,000 To purchase the materials to be utilized by the skaters/bmxers.

$ 5,000 Plant shade trees/gazeebo for people who are watching the athletes.
$ 15,000 Fencing will be needed for the park.
$ 5,000 Left over money will be used to maintain the skatepark/future repairs.
