Overview
Thousands of people are struggling daily to make decisions on whether to spend their limited income on food or rent or medication. Northern Illinois Food Bank's new facility to be built in Geneva, IL will provide more food through our 537 partner food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens and youth sites to meet this need. The building will more than double the storage space for dry goods, frozen food and fresh produce. More docks will be available for loading their fleet of 13 vehicles that are on the road daily picking up donations and delivering to agencies in our 7,000 square mile service area. Improved sorting and packing areas for volunteers will increase the amount of food they handle and distribute. A production kitchen will prepare meals to give to over 3,000 children daily at after-school and summer youth sites. A Community Nutrition Center will provide education and research to combat the alarming rise of obesity and diabetes among the low-income population.
