Overview

Mediation is a conflict resolution process that lets people speak for themselves and make their own decisions.  Mediation creates understanding and rebuilds relationships.  Because the decisions come from the people involved in the conflict, the solutions are long-lasting.  Even though this service is available for free to all Maryland residents, it is underused because people are not aware of it.  It is especially underused among young people, despite the fact that several young people have dedicated their time to serve as volunteer mediators (see video).
Through a Pepsi Refresh Everything Grant, CMM will work with its 17 member community-based mediation centers to conduct a comprehensive public education campaign to increase the use of mediation among young people.  This campaign will include development and distribution of a public service announcement, outreach in schools and community centers, a web and facebook presence, and free training for young people.
