Overview

Humanities Iowa (HI) Speakers Bureau (SB) is an ongoing program that brings insightful humanities presentations to communities throughout Iowa. Iowa history, literature, and folklore are some of the many topics covered by our 41 speakers. A full catalogue of speakers and presentations is available on our website, www.humanitiesiowa.org. Our SB presentations provide opportunities for thoughtful consideration of historical and current issues in an entertaining and enjoyable way. They are free to the general public and are especially important to small towns that have little other cultural programming. Between 90 and 100 programs are presented each year across Iowa, reaching between 9,000 and 10,000 people. Nearly 3/4 of events take place in small towns or rural areas. Grant funds would provide to all communities a broader range of SB offerings by providing support for speakers to travel from farther away. The broader range of options may also result in a greater number of events.
