Overview
At the Higgins Museum, we want to completely restructure our school educational offerings from an outmoded lecture style to a discovery mode of learning. Rather than being lead passively through the Museum for a series of talks at pre-determined stations, students will now actively engage in staff-lead multi-media auditorium experiences, visit staffed interpretive zones featuring hands-on learning stations and take part in Readers Theater performances where students themselves take the main roles.Over a one-year period, we will develop and implement these programs, including CastleKids for pre-K-2nd grade students and Gothic Knight and 14th Century Knight for mid-elementary and middle/high school grades. We will transform staff roles from tour guides to facilitators of discovery, and restructure programs around self-guided museum exploration and critical thinking opportunities that will unlock the Museums educational potential for students.
