Overview
Heritage Works Community Arts (CA) project combines after-school drum, dance and cultural enrichment activities for youth with family health and heritage activities in order to get families moving and promote positive family and youth development. Through cultural movement and music classes (e.g., Guinean/Taiko drum, dance) and stress management activities (Yoga, working with hands/craft), this project will use the arts and cross-disciplinary collaboration to: promote excellence among youth, promote health and wellness among Detroit families with youth, and engage and positively impact people who traditionally do not participate. Youth will, in turn, share and perform for their community. Deliverables: -Heritage after School program (20 wks), min. of 50 youth participants, -Healthy and Heritage program (20 wks), min. of 20 adult participants, -4 community performances (e.g., local school, senior ctrs, community ctr) -2 recognition events, -$17,000 in donations from other sources.
