Overview
Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary, in Grandview Heights, located close to downtown Columbus, Ohio does not have a playground on school property, due to old equipment being dismantled due to safety issues. The public school serves children year-round during the academic year and in after-school/summer programs. We are requesting your help to build a Sensory Playground that will be adaptive to student needs, promote safe and independent play, and support opportunities for sensory integration. A wheel-chair accessible path with bridges looping through the space will provide a place for the children to ride tricycles. The children will be able to touch and smell fragrant leaves and flowers throughout the playground. There will be art stations that include a place to paint and create plus interactive murals, done by a local artist. Outdoor interactive musical instruments provide children an opportunity to create music. Climbing walls and swings will promote physical fitness and balance.
