Cleaning up the Mississippi River with the help of Friends of Pool 9Friends of Pool 9

We are applying for $5,000 to help the Friends of Pool 9 clean the Mississippi River. Our plan is to sponsor a day each year to clean up the Mississippi Pool 9 area. Upper Mississippi River System (UMRS) Pool 9 is used to describe the region of the UMRS that is controlled by Lock and Dam 9. It extends from Lock and Dam 9 located near Harpers Ferry, Iowa upstream to Lock and Dam 8 located near Genoa, Wisconsin. Our grant would go towards supplies for cleaning up the river, such as garbage bags, gloves, and gas for the boats. After cleaning the river all morning all of the volunteers will come in to a lunch that we will supply with the grant money. After lunch everyone will go back out to clean the river until just before dark and come in to some activities and entertainment for the night. The grant money will also supply t-shirts for all of the volunteers.
