Overview
In October, 2010 The Friends of Jacob Foundation would like to begin a Therapeutic Horseback Riding program in the Metro Detroit area to complement other services that we provide to families with children on the Autism Spectrum. Our program would also be open to all other disabled or special needs individuals. The benefits of therapeutic horseback riding are well-documented. It is considered a valuable and progressive form of therapy.
We will need to:
- Complete certification through NARHA (expected in October 2010)
- Find additional horses suitable for the program
- Purchase necessary equipment
- Care for and maintain horses (boarding, food, medical expenses, etc.)
- Locate and train volunteers
- Advertise our program
- Schedule a grand opening and invite the community to view the facility, meet our horses and talk with our staff
- Schedule classes and start the therapy sessions
