Goals

  • to increase the reading fluency and comprehension of our students
  • to provide equipment for 21st Century learning opportunities

Overview

This proposal is a joint project and application for providing computers and reading software for fourteen-21st Century Classrooms with an ambitious goal to raise the reading fluency and comprehension levels for our students.  The schools have come together with ESU #11 to save money and initiate a plan for using the software 'QuickReads' in their schools.    Distributed from a server housed at the ESU, the students will be able to access the software each day for 15 minutes to improve their reading fluency and comprehension.  The ESU will install one server and software for access by all the participating schools over a fiber network.  Each elementary school will receive access to the software, 10 computers (PC or Mac as fits their school environment) and headsets to allow teachers to utilize the program with grade 2-6 students.  Training workshops will be led by Pearson Educ. and held at ESU #11 for each participating teacher.

How will the 250K be Used?

Budget Notes: Schools may purchase Dell or Macintosh laptops or desktops as best fits their school needs ($1400 Max/computer). Server, installation, teacher training will be provided out of local funds or paid from another grant. QuickReads software purchased at discount from Pearson Education.
