Goals
- Determine the causes of Alzheimer's disease.
- Continue support for a project already making great discoveries.
Overview
CAF invests in research that will make a big difference; not an incremental difference. Scientific rigor is provided by a Research Consortium of leading Alzheimer's researchers from academic instituions including Harvard, Universities of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and many more. All proposals are reviewed by a Scientific Advisory Board composed of national leaders.
CAF funds investigations into projects that will dramatically decrease the time for development of effective therapies. This means finding genes that account for 80% of the disease, understand how they effect the risk, and develop ways to interfere with that pathology AND to anticipate it before it develops so that effective prophylactic measures can be taken for those who are genetically disposed but who are not yet symptomatic.
Funding from Pepsi would allow accelerated follow-up on one of the most promising genes and its biological pathways- which could lead to novel methods of preventing or stopping the disease.

| Budget Notes: The budget covers only direct costs; not overhead or operating costs for CAF nor for any collaborating institution. All $250,000 will go directly to research that is already reviewed and approved by the Scientific Advisory Board. | |
