Overview
A ConKerr activity that the kids love most are sewing days on the oncology units. Volunteers teach the children to make their own personalized pillowcases. Each child leaves with a special pillowcase for themselves and one for a friend. We serve over 150 hospitals but lack resources to sew at every hospital. Our proposal is to purchase enough supplies for our volunteers to host sewing days at most of the hospitals we serve in the US during Pediatric Cancer month September 2010 and beyond. Deliverables: 100 Sewing Days at childrens' hospitals across the country during September 2010. 6,000 pillowcases made by 3,000 sick kids and their siblings in 100 communities. 80 sewing machines purchased to support sewing days in each community. The machines will be used every month into the future. Hundreds of volunteers engaged in planning and executing the pillowcase days in September and beyond. National and local media coverage about kids with cancer and the Pepsi-ConKerr Sewing Days.
