Overview
There are 1,330 new cases of cancer diagnosed everyday in New Jersey. Gilda's Club serves the region by creating welcoming communities of support to anyone touched by cancer. The "Gilda's Club Cancer Support Squad" project will mobilize its free cancer support services by creating a statewide traveling program to reach under-served populations that live too far from the clubhouses. The program will enable outreach to multiple regions around the state.
Gilda's Club is a place where men, women and children affected by cancer can form a sympathetic community to build social and emotional support as a complement to medical care. With this project, clinicians and volunteers can conduct in-house programs - weekly wellness groups, workshops, lectures, networking groups and social events - at VFWs, community centers or social clubs. The vans can help transport staff and supplies needed for meetings, events and health fairs.
