Goals
- Theatre as means for creation of community.
- Teaching workshops, alongside performances, in creating new works.
- Full production of new play that explores family history/mythology.
Overview
Buran Theatre Company will produce a new full length production in July & August of 2010 in Topeka, KS, Lawrence, KS & Kansas City, MO. In this new community-oriented production, Bournijka the Boxer: American Mythology, Vol. 1, a young writer seeks to discover the history of his great-grandfather, a Polish immigrant who, according to myth, was a prize-winning boxer, the inventor of the Nabisco cookie, and spoke only in verse.
Alongside our performances we will also be conducting workshops free of charge. This opportunity allows the audience to be a part of the ever-changing dialogue, to introduce a means of creation, prompting spectators to create in their own lives and on their own terms, giving the gift of a personal, active relationship with the theatre. A thought we engage in every workshop with participants is – Every idea you have for change, for creation, for community is an opportunity for you to act on it and involve others.
