Goals
- Utilize internet to aid in intervention of teen suicide
Overview
BRCIC was founded in 1970 as a 24-hour confidential telephone crisis counseling service, THE PHONE, on the campus of Louisiana State University. The organization’s role in crisis intervention and counseling now comprises all facets of traumatic loss, including one of the most traumatic, suicide. We have developed a plan in for which to accomplish in the following areas:
- A portal containing documents, resources, videos, etc. that deal with topics such as suicide prevention, crisis intervention, children’s bereavement, etc.
- A program from which messages can be sent to our counselors for answering via email
- A chatroom in which a user can connect to a volunteer counselor in our center
It is our intention to share the knowledge gained through this project to aid the formation of similar systems in other localities. Development is expected to conclude in the near future, and we are pleased to convey that the project can be cost-efficiently implemented and maintained.
