Tuning Up Detroit Public Schools

In Detroit, only three of every ten high school students graduates, and the city has one of the highest drop-out rates in the country. With 10,000 residents moving away every year and the unemployment rate nearly three times the national average, the Motor City is hungry for hope. City Year Detroit, a team of 63 red-jacketed young leaders, fans out into the public school system to inspire and mentor 2,000 students in the classroom and in after-school programs. City Year corpsmembers give a year of their lives to change the world, transforming communities in 20 cities nationwide.

With $250,000, City Year Detroit lifts grade point averages and aspirations on the frontline of urban education. What could you do?
