Goals
- Give kids a place to get hands-on learning experiences.
- Reinforce the lessons that we already teach in the classroom.
- Create a Safety Village to practice the auto/bike/pedestrian rules.
- Create a place that we can go farther than "Stop, Drop and Roll".
Overview
Children learn best by practicing what they have learned. Children who practice what they have learned in school will remember it better, and will be able to use that knowledge as a basis for future learning.
Early stimulation sets the stage for how children will learn and react to things throughout life. If we teach them early and effectively about safe behaviors, these behaviors are more likely to stay with them throughout their lives.
It is this theory that is behind the Arvada Fire Protection District’s Fire & Life Safety Education Center. The Education Center will be a place where kids will be able to have hands-on learning time while reinforcing the lessons that they have learned in our previous presentations.
The Education Center would be available for other area fire departments to bring their students as well.
We already own the site and buiding, we just need to create the props and exhibits.
