Overview

The construction of a splash pad is an important recreational tool for the community and surrounding area. Walnut does not have a swimming pool and cannot afford such a facility. The closest swimming pool is located in Avoca, which is six miles from Walnut. Oftentimes, parents find it difficult or nearly impossible to have the necessary time to transport their children to and from Avoca because swimming hours typically coincide with traditional 8 to 5 working hours. Children would be able to walk to the facility, stay as long as they like, and return home at their leisure, all free of charge. The splash pad would be operated on a timer, so the pad would be operational from mid-morning to early evening. The Walnut Splash Pad would be the only splash pad located between Omaha, NE and Des Moines, IA, making it a unique feature to our area. Also, it will be located near the baseball and softball diamonds, giving the children a great way to cool off after the big game.

How will the 50K be Used?

Budget Notes: The total estimated cost of our splash pad project is $199,727. Over half of that cost is for the spray features. We are also looking into other grants to help us cover the costs of design, construction, utility connections and installation.
