Overview
In America today, educational inequity persists along socioeconomic and racial lines. Nine-year-olds in low-income communities are already three grade levels behind their peers in high-income communities. Half of them will not graduate from high school. This year, 7,300 Teach For America teachers will positively impact nearly 450,000 students in 35 urban and rural low-income communities. We aim to deepen our impact by 1) spanning 350+ college campuses to recruit 4,500 of our nation's brightest future leaders to teach in low-income communities, 2) training 4,500 new teachers and helping them develop the skills needed to be successful educators, 3) providing our 7,300 active teachers the one-on-one support needed to accelerate their students' learning, and 4) supporting the leadership development of our 17,000 alumni who work from all sectors to influence the long-term changes necessary to level the educational playing field.
