Overview

My Very Own Book Reading Incentive Program:

A partnership is formed with an elementary school in a low-income neighborhood.  Students read and record minutes read outside of regular school hours.  They are rewarded with a certificate (bronze, silver, gold) at an awards assembly and a new, free book of their choice from the site "free book store".  At the end of the year the child in each classroom with the most minutes read, receives a reading medal. My Very Own Book supplies all books, medals, forms and a small stipend for the site coordinator (teacher or librarian) of our project.  Awards and books are given out each six weeks during the school year and students can count on participating year-after-year from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.  Our reading incentive program increases literacy skills, helps children connect to literature and creates life-long readers.
