Goals

  • Feed the hungry & clothe & shelter the needy

Overview

The Open Arms diner, a project led by Nowa Littlesun, feeds the Independence community on Tuesday nights. This is not a soup kitchen for just the very poor. It is a dining experience for the hungry, for people needing to be with people, a place to network and be accepted. All people are welcome at the table. Meals are free of charge. A supplemental project is the Home Sweet Home program which begins with acquiring property to build a shelter for the homeless in the area. The outreach program is based on Matthew chapter 25, to feed the hungry & to clothe & shelter the needy.
The longer range goal is for the success of these programs in Independence, Kansas to expand in cities across the country but in recessionary times, they are needed desperately to give hope, love & support to those who need it the most.

How will the 50K be Used?

Budget Notes: The budget will not cover the volunteers who set tables & serve nor the volunteer's time for repair & upkeep of the shelter. It will cover the purchase of food, plates, plastic cups, take home containers, as well as repair costs to the shelter & furnishing it with suitable appliances & furniture.
$ 50,000 To support furnishing supplies for the diner & the shelter.
