Overview
In 2009, only 45% of Hispanic and Black students graduated from high school in Denver compared to 75% of the general student population. JA programs connect staying in school with future opportunity. One of our most successful programs is JA Business Week, a one-week “crash-course” in business. Students live on a college campus, gain business and leadership skills from volunteer role models and compete in “apprentice-style” business projects. Bottom line, these kids learn about their strengths and become inspired to achieve things they never thought possible. We are proud to report that of the students who participated in JA Business Week last year:
-86% felt prepared to enter the job market, compared to 57% before
-81% were interested in being entrepreneurs, compared to 69% before
-87% felt comfortable working with people they don’t know, compared to 75% before
