Overview

Often, agencies that need the most volunteer support -- shelters and soup kitchens, community gardens, local schools -- don't have or can't spare the time or the money to recruit and manage everyone who wants to help. HOBA staff solve this problem by helping to develop and manage one-time projects. Some may meet an ongoing need (like serving soup at homeless shelter or hanging out with kids while their guardians take parenting classes), or are large-scale transformations (like repainting a classroom). Then, we recruit local volunteers online and match a trained Project Leader who will help us get the job done.

How will the 50K be Used?

Budget Notes: Recruiting and managing volunteers takes people, so the majority of our budget is spent on the time it takes for our small staff to develop awesome Bay Area volunteer experiences nearly every day. HOBA also gets the great support of 7 AmeriCorps members, whose salary is part of a government grant.
