Overview

We will create the GIVE (Generations in Volunteering Excellence) program, an intergenerational volunteer program in which 100 older adults (including grandparents) team up with 300 young people, ages 5-18, serving nonprofit organizations in their communities. We will collaborate with Kids Korps USA, a nonprofit youth volunteer organization to pilot the program in Chicago and San Diego. At year end, 1,000 organizations (e.g., schools, clubs) will receive GIVE for use in their communities to expand national use. Children participating in GIVE will develop new skills and knowledge; receive support from non-parent adult mentors; learn positive values; and, develop caring relationships with others. Older adults will share their expertise, skills, and passions with youth as they serve the community together and participate in meaningful work that makes a difference in the lives of children and the people they serve. The GIVE program will inspire next generations of volunteers and leaders.
