Overview

A $250,000 Refresh Everything grant will support the 21st annual Best Buddies Leadership Conference by establishing the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Leadership Fund. The 2010 Leadership Conference will provide personalized training to 100 community advocates with intellectual and developmental disabilities and 1,000 top student leaders without disabilities. Last year, 800 participants spent 4 days in July at the Conference enhancing their knowledge of the Best Buddies movement. The EKS Leadership Fund will allow us to select and educate 300 additional students needing financial assistance, including 100 with disabilities.

Measurable Outcomes: 
Four day conference at Indiana University, July 2010 with a minimum of 1,100 attendees.

100 people with disabilities complete leadership and public speaking training.

In September 2010, over 1500 Best Buddies chapters established with thousands of one-to-one friendships between students with and without disabilities.

How will the 250K be Used?

Budget Notes: $250,000 will be used to support 300 additional attendees with and without disabilities who need financial assistance through the EKS Fund. The funds will not be used in any way to support the international attendees that come to the conference. The funds will not go towards 800 of the attendees.

$ 60,000 Room, board & materials for the additional 300 attendees
$ 15,000 Cost 25 additional staff to attend for the increase of 300 attendees
$ 35,000 One staff member to plan training for people with disabilities
$ 35,000 One staff member to coordinate EKS financial assistance
$ 15,000 Honorariums and out of pocket expenses for speakers/special guests
