Overview
In the last quarter of 2010, we will open the brick and mortar location of Avid Bookshop (which is currently online only). Avid will sell new and used books, coffee and pastries, and locally-made cards and gifts. Before the opening and throughout the life of the store, we will coordinate book fairs, local book clubs, author events, and cultural happenings that will help foster a sense of community. Athens is a vibrant and creative town--a perfect place for an independent bookstore like Avid. Currently, we have no general-interest indie bookstore that sells new books. We are hoping that Avid will serve as a meeting place for people of all ages and tastes. Using the concept of "placemaking," we aim to create an independent shop that is much more than your average retail store; with on- and off-site events, spontaneous discussions, book club meetings, kids' story time, and more, Avid will be the perfect place to find a book and meet a new friend.

| Budget Notes: This budget will get us started on inventory, build-out, and cafe start-up fees. This will not cover payroll, subsequent inventory orders, rent, or utilities. If PEPSI has requirements on how we must use our grant money, we'll be happy to comply. | |
| $ 24,000 | opening inventory (new books from publishers) |
| $ 18,000 | build-out (bookshelf construction, painting, contractor fees, etc.) |
| $ 8,000 | cafe supplies, recycled espresso machine, coffee makers, etc. |
